Solutions to Your HIM Data Display Dilemmas

Excel is Fun!  NEW!  Do you need to update your Excel skills to a more advanced  level, or do you need to start with the basics and learn how to use Excel?  It does not
matter what your  learning needs because you will find what you need to learn Excel using these free videos.  These YouTube videos were prepared by a professor at a
Community College. He has over 1200 videos covering nearly everything that can possibility be done using  Excel, including statistics. Just go to this basic link and listen to
his instructions on how to find the other videos and download the workbooks that he uses to teach.  This is a GREAT FREE RESOURCE!  Here are some examples of skills
you may need to use that have easy to understand videos.

Sample Spreadsheets for Common HIM Data Display

The most common request for help I have received from students and HIM professionals is for help with Excel and data display. I have started putting some spreadsheets
for common HIM display dilemmas and Excel functions that can be used in the management of Health Information Services on this site (see links below), so they can easily
accessed as a resource.  I will be adding more of them after I have removed all of the information that is considered proprietary, so more spreadsheets will be available
soon.

  • HIM Pareto Charts -This spreadsheet sample shows you how the principles explained in the Excel is Fun video on how to use Excel to make a Pareto Chart can be
    used in HIM.

Bnet - Publishes very insightful articles on management subjects, such had how to deal with negative employees, the office bully, building your confidence, and much
more.  This is very interesting reading, and provides a great resource to site if you a student in a management class. This site also offer some videos on management
subject.  

O*NET - Occupational Information Network - Online database that is the primary source for occupational information
for the United States.  It provides information about the skills, knowledge, abilities (KSAs), interests, content of the work.
Allows you to select a profession and even find the salaries based on the state.

Physician Practice Management - Articles written for the physician's perspective, but provides some very good information for physician practice management, including
articles on bundling, human resources, coding, legal issues such as red flag rules, etc.

Search Medica - You can either access articles from a list or you can use the search feature.  This site is billed by website as a "way to improve the practice of medicine by
allowing physicians and medical practitioners to discover the most relevant, authoritative, and timely clinical information on the Internet and to find it quickly and easily".  
There are many articles that are relevant and well written that are indexed on this website.
